My soulful roots got me in the spirit to cook up a dairy-free Southern Fried Chicken recipe. Not only will this chicken be golden brown, crispy, and delicious. It’s dairy-free without the use of buttermilk and healthy by using an air fryer instead of deep frying in oil. There are plenty of delicious dairy-free sides that go great with Southern Fried Chicken including mashed potatoes, vegan mac and cheese, salad, coleslaw, and more. I decided to kick up the sweet and salty concoction by pairing my southern fried chicken with my favorite vegan/gluten-free waffles {Full Ingredient List Below}.

Here is my dairy-free Southern Fried Chicken recipe that dairy-free and even milk lovers will ENJOY!

Step 1: MARINATE - In a large mixing bowl, mix together the paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and seasoning salt, and set aside. Lay the chicken flat on a clean plate or baking sheet. Oil both sides of the chicken with canola oil, then, season both sides with the spice mixture.

Step 2: MARINATE - "ButtahMilk" - Combine 2 tbsp white vinegar and 2 c unsweetened dairy-free milk in a bowl. Mix to combine and set aside.

Step 3: MARINATE - Place seasoned chicken in a large resealable freezer bag. Pour "ButtahMilk" over the seasoned chicken and close the bag. Marinate in the refrigerator for 8 hours or overnight.

Step 4: Preheat the air fryer to 360°F.

Step 5: In a bowl, combine dry seasoned flour ingredients (all-purpose flour, garlic powder, seasoning salt, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper) and set aside.

Step 6: Take the chicken out of the resealable bag, shake off the excess marinade liquid, and place the chicken on a clean plate or cutting board. Coat chicken in the seasoned flour and shake off any excess flour. Set aside near the air fryer.

Step 7: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with canola oil spray. Using tongs, place chicken, in a single layer, in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10-15 minutes.

Step 8: Once the 10-15 minutes are up, open the air fryer and spray canola oil spray on any remaining flour areas. Flip the chicken and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Step 9: When done, transfer the chicken to a plate or cutting board and allow it to cool slightly.

Step 10: Serve with side dishes and ENJOY!
